The top three cookbooks that inspire Jay
We asked our founder for his top three cookbooks, and after much debating (and a fair bit of rifling through bookshelves), he finally made his picks! His favourites? Zoe's Ghana Kitchen by Zoe Adjonyoh, Afro Vegan by Zoe Alakija, and The Ultimate Avocado Cookbook by Carla Hutson. Safe to say, he’s got great taste!
Zoe's Ghana Kitchen by Zoe Adjonyoh
A vibrant introduction to Ghanaian cuisine, this book blends traditional flavors with modern twists. Zoe Adjonyoh shares her personal journey, offering accessible recipes that celebrate bold spices, rich stews, and West African staples. Perfect for anyone looking to explore Ghanaian food with love and authenticity.
“I love Zoe’s work around 8 years ago I went to a pop-up she hosted and got to know her personally, she is an absolute encyclopedia of Ghanaian flavours and a pioneer for her craft being one of the first mainstream West African cookbooks in the country! It also helps that my West African family agree with many of her recipes and methods - believe me, in our culture authentic sign-off is needed! “

Afro Vegan by Zoe Alakija
This cookbook reimagines Nigerian flavors with a plant-based twist. Zoe Alakija presents nourishing, flavorful recipes that honor African culinary traditions while embracing vegan living. Stunning photography and heartfelt storytelling make it an inspiring guide for anyone looking to enjoy West African flavors in a fresh, plant-based way.
Because I’m lactose intolerant this is a win-win for me!

The Ultimate Avocado Cookbook by Carla Hutson
A must-have for avocado lovers, this cookbook explores the fruit’s versatility in both savory and sweet dishes. From creamy pasta sauces to avocado brownies, Carla Hutson offers creative recipes that showcase avocados’ delicious possibilities, making it a great resource for healthy and flavorful meals.
Carla’s book explores the versatility of avocados, offering creative recipes that go beyond the usual toast and (my personal favourite) guacamole!
